Poppy's Music Cover Analysis - "Q" May 2008 issue (29.9.11)

q_magazine_cover_may2008.jpg
There is no white space as the colour scheme is black red and grey. There are banners that have been placed at an angle advertising whats inside. The masthead has been placed in the corner and is simple as there has only been use of one letter for the name of the mag. A sans serif font has been chosen for the text and madonna's name has been written in drop capitals to make the main feature of the mag clear. The sell line used is 'Britain's Biggest Music Mag' which is very bold and to the point as though it is factual rather than an opinionated. There is use of puff's whereabouts they have used the mode of address to involve the audience. There is a list of the music artists featured in the mag down the left hand side of the cover which also helps to attract the reader to buy the mag. x

Poppy Preliminary - Front Cover (29.9.11)

  • I chose a black and white effect for my front cover because it adds to the sophistication of the model and the college campus.
  • The colour of the font was part of the black and white theme I had chosen and the colours work well with the background.
  • The font style's is also a classic font chosen to work with the lushness of the image.
  • I decided on 'sweet 6th form' as the headline as its a play on words to symbolise the students as 'sweet' and the fact that most students begin 6th form at the age of 16 known as their 'sweet 16th' .

Becca's Annotation - Front Cover (29.9.11)

I chose to do the title in this font because it looks like a pencil line and it is clear to read. I used the same font throughout the front cover because it is easy to read and doesn't confuse people. I used navy blue as it matches the girls jacket and it contrasts the white background. I chose to use the colours red and white for the headlines as they are vibrant colours and easy to read and they will attract readers attention. The picture in the background has followed the rule of thirds and this draws the attention of the reader to the girls face. I chose this picture as it follows the rule of thirds and the model looks happy and natural, this shows that the college is a relaxed place to be.
